Goats Cheese "butter board"

We have probably all heard of the viral butter board at this stage - maybe even made on or eaten one at a friend's place. Well, I've taken it up a notch for those who want a fun cheesy version! I give you one of my greatest creations yet - the goat's cheese "butter board". This is going to be your go-to party platter - trust me!

Why I LOVE This Recipe

What's not to love? We have a board full of cheese, bacon & mango chutney all ready to be smeared over charred crusty bread - insert drool.

I could write a GIANT list of why this goats cheese butter board is incredible but truth be told you are just going to have to keep scrolling and make it yourself 😉

How To Make A Goats Cheese Board

The sheer beauty of this recipe is its simplicity! I've put together my favourite toppings for this particular goat's cheese butter board, but if you keep scrolling, you will find some delicious alternative options you can add too.

For this particular goats cheese butter board, I used the following ingredients

  • goats cheese - a soft one is best, and take it out of the fridge 10-15mins prior to starting
  • bacon - streaky bacon cut into lardons and fried until crispy
  • mango chutney - I used berenbergs chutney here in Australia
  • herbs - chopped chives and dill
  • citrus - a little lemon zest at the end helps brighten it up
  • nuts - toasted walnuts and then roughly chopped. A great combo with goats cheese

As you can see, nothing out of the ordinary here - why not head to your local grocery store and get smearing right away 😉

Other Topping Ideas

The beauty about these viral butter boards, and now my goat's cheese butter board, is the toppings are ENDLESS. Just think about what works well with butter (everything), what you can smear onto toast (most things) and/or what you like to have with cheese (other than wine....).

Here are a few additional topping ideas for your goat's cheese butter board

  • figs
  • spicy meat chopped finely
  • spring onions
  • berries
  • most jams that you would have with cheese - figs and date would be great!
  • cornichons
  • herbs - tarragon, parsley or thyme
  • edible flowers
  • honey

The list really is endless, so why not get creative and have some fun!

Ingredients 

  • 450 g soft goats cheese
  • 4 slices streaky bacon
  • 20 g walnuts
  • mango chutney
  • dill
  • chives finely chopped
  • 1 lemon zested
  • cracked pepper
  • bread
  • oil

Essential Tools

  • Chef Knives
  • Chopping board
  • wooden board/large plate
  • zester
  • spoon for smearing goats cheese
  • frying pan
  • grill pan

Instructions

  • Remove goats cheese from fridge 10mins prior to start
  • Toast nuts in a dry pan for approx. 4 mins and then chop finely
  • Cut bacon into lardons, cook in frying pan with a little oil until crispy. Allow to cool and then chop finely into breadcrumbs
  • Smear goats cheese onto wooden chopping board or plate
  • Add mango chutney, bacon & walnuts
  • Next, add herbs, lemon zest and a little black pepper
  • Drizzle bread in olive oil and grill until crispy
  • Smear goats cheese mixture onto bread and enjoy!

Notes

Tips/Tricks

  • remove goats cheese from the fridge approx. 10min prior to start so that it’s easier to spread
  • allow bacon to cool so it crisps up before chopping
  • you can add as much or as little of the toppings as you like!

    sorry gavin but i just laugh every time i see one of these sorts of boards. I just keep thinking of the washing-up! and how much easier to use a china plate i can shove in the dishwasher! i'm sure it's delish tho.
